Cisco - User Experience Design Manager (San Jose)

Title: User Experience Design Manager

Location: San Jose, CA

Flip Video at Cisco, makers of easy-to-use video camcorders (www.theflip.com), is seeking a UX design manager to join us working on our software, hardware, websites, and other materials. We want someone with the talent to run a team which helps us create elegant designs which appeal to a wide range of customers, the skills to support the product definition process, and the passion to help us create the best possible experience for our users. This is a full-time, on-site position reporting directly to our lead product manager.

The central project for the user experience team is the set of Windows, Mac, and Web applications which our users employ to work with the videos they capture with our cameras. We need someone who make our team of visual and interaction designers effective by setting priorities, providing design feedback, supporting designers’ skill development, and connecting the team to the rest of the organization.

Responsibilities for this position include:

* Progressively refining designs in collaboration with our design / product / development team
* Organizing and prioritizing the work of the design team
* Providing design guidance
* Mentoring team members in their professional and skills development
* Communicating design principles and solutions throughout the organization
* Supporting and improving design and development processes
* Directing and advising other design resources, both internal and external
* Advising and mentoring more junior designers as the team grows

Candidates for this position must:

* Have mastery of UX skills, processes, and principles
* Understand desktop software interface idioms and information design principles
* Have professional experience in UX design
* Have professional experience in design team management
* Effectively balance multiple projects and reliably meet deadlines
* Understand the design implications of fundamental Web technologies (HTML / Ajax / etc)
* Work well in a collaborative environment
* Communicate well visually, verbally, interpersonally, and in writing
* Be able to present design solutions to a range of audiences
* Have the ability to independently drive a design process from beginning to end

The ideal candidate will also:

* Have portfolio examples of consumer-facing design
* Have experience inside a software development organization
* Have skills in user research
* Have experience within a software development process
